Walu-ma-rra (to be a guardian, protect)
This blanket’s design is inspired by a painting close to my heart, featuring Maliyan—the majestic wedge-tailed eagle and my totem. As a guardian of our land, Maliyan embodies the healing, strength, and resilience that are central to our culture and heritage. This beautiful bird is a symbol of the 2021 NAIDOC theme, "Heal Country," which encourages us all to protect our lands, waters, and cultural sites.
Reflecting on the environmental and cultural challenges since colonisation—such as land clearing, development, and pollution—this blanket serves as a reminder of our role as protectors of this land. Together, we can be guardians of our heritage, preserving it for future generations.
