About the Design – Walu-ma-rra (to be a guardian, protect)
Inspired by the NAIDOC 2021 theme "Heal Country," this design centers on my totem, the maliyan (wedgetail eagle), which embodies the strength, resilience, and healing of our people. The wedgetail eagle is a powerful guardian, calling for the protection of our land, waters, and sacred sites against exploitation and destruction. As Australians, we can unite to safeguard our culture, wildlife, and ecosystems for generations to come.
